Identification

Lepilemur jamesorum is a medium-sized sportive lemur with a head-body length of 26 cm, a tail length of 30 cm, a total length of 56 cm, and a body weight of 780 g (Louis et al., 2006b). The pelage is short and smooth, being generally brown above and a lighter grayish- brown on the belly and ventral surface of the extremities. The tail is brown proximally, gradually becoming a darker brown to black distally. The face is demarcated into a mask, with whitish-gray markings along the jaw and throat from the chin to the ears, while the dorsum of the head is brown with a black midline that is continuous for almost the entire length of the body. The ears are large and cup-shaped, gray dorsally with black borders and (usually) a small cream-colored patch on the region beneath (Louis et al., 2006b).
