Tsiombikibo Forest *

The Tsiombikibo Forest is located northwest of Mitsinjo in western Madagascar. It is presently the only site where one can see the recently-described Tsiombikibo sportive lemur (Lepilemur ahmansonorum), and is also a good site for the mongoose lemur (Eulemur mongoz) and Decken’s sifaka (Propithecus deckenii). Populations of rufous brown lemur (Eulemur rufus) and northern bamboo lemur (Hapalemur occidentalis) occur here as well. The road from Katsepy, the only access, is closed during the rainy season (November–May), so visits are only practical during the dry season. Visitors need to be self-sufficient as there are currently no amenities. Engaging the services of an Antananarivo-based tour operator is highly recommended.
