Ambohitantely Special Reserve

Located in east-central Madagascar on the high central plateau, about 130 km (2–3 hours by car) from Antananarivo, this reserve is easily accessed by way of RN4. Camping is possible, and there are basic hotels in the small nearby city of Ankazobe (30 km). Species that have been reported here include an as-yet unidentified form of mouse lemur (Microcebus), gray bamboo lemur (Hapalemur griseus griseus), brown lemur (Eulemur fulvus), and eastern woolly lemur (Avahi laniger). The crowned sifaka (Propithecus coronatus) was formerly found here as well, but was extirpated in the 1960s.
